About the game

Primordial Soup is a free evolution strategy game for your browser. You start as a single organism in a living primordial soup that grows on its own – your job is to decide where to spread, whom to attack and how to evolve.

Click an enemy to attack it with the strength you choose, or click free soup to steer your growth. Spend DNA in an open evolution tree with eight branches – metabolism, growth, armor, poison, agility, immune system, light and spores – and throw spores over rocks and enemies to settle new ground. Hydrothermal vents and light zones reward smart expansion. You win with 80 percent of the soup or as the last survivor.

Play solo against AI organisms on two maps – the quick Tide Pool and the long Great Soup – or play multiplayer with up to six players plus AI organisms, in a quick match with Elo rating or a private match with friends. It runs on desktop and on phones in landscape.

How to play

Your organism grows automatically. Click an enemy to attack it, with the strength you set, or click free soup to steer your growth there. Collect DNA and buy nodes in the evolution tree to get stronger. Take hydrothermal vents and light zones, and throw spores over rocks and enemies to settle new ground. You win with 80 percent of the soup or as the last survivor. In multiplayer, start a quick match with Elo rating or invite friends to a private match. Inspired by the game idea of OpenFront.io; Primordial Soup is its own game with its own code and graphics.

  1. Click or tap an enemy: attack it with the strength you set

  3. Slider in the HUD: choose how much of your mass goes into an attack
  4. Evolution button: open the evolution tree and spend DNA

It was inspired by the game idea of OpenFront.io, but Primordial Soup is its own game with its own code and graphics, built around evolution, spores and a living soup.
